Subject :# 14159 Curs Monográfic: Shakespeare through Performance

Student´s name: Pastor Labrandero, Juan Manuel

Title of the paper: A Feminist Perspective on Three Shakespeare’s Comedies

Author or topic: William Shakespeare

Abstract:In this paper I compare The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Comedy of Errors. In the introduction, I present the purpose of this paper which is to discuss certain aspects of these Shakespeare’s comedies from a feminist perspective. In other blog entries, I will draw conclusions about possible feminist or anti-feminist ideology within the plays. Obviously, there was no such concept as feminism in the Elizabethan England, however, Shakespeare could have call into question certain patriarchal values by exposing the way they neglected women. The paper is divided in three parts: The discussion of the “shrew” in The Taming of the shrew, the discussion of male dominance in  A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the discussion about marriage in The Comedy of Errors. Finally, I will put together my conclusions about this feminist perspective.
